Session Abstract: As higher education institutions rushed to implement online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, they had little information about the impact of this rapid adaption on student outcomes. While recent research has focused on the immediate impacts of remote learning, the impacts of the pandemic on longer-term outcomes like degree progression and graduation is unclear. It is also unclear how the effect of remote learning in the K-12 setting has affected college outcomes, and whether this effect will continue for future students. This presentation will examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on outcomes during the pandemic, as well as outcomes of students that entered higher education after the pandemic. We will use data from the UNC System, the NC Department of Instruction, and data on the amount of time spent in virtual and hybrid learning environments. We hope this study will serve as a template for other researchers and institutions in different settings.
