Melinda Whitford is a research analyst at the University at Buffalo in the Office of Institutional Analysis and graduate faculty in the Graduate School of Education. She has been involved with numerous research projects while at UB including retention modeling, gateway math course analyses, first generation students success and PHD excellence initiatives. In addition, Melinda serves on UB’s Middle States Committee for Reaccreditation and serves as the Academic Analytics campus liaison. She continues to be an adjunct professor at the University at Buffalo and Niagara University, teaching statistics, mathematics, and science education and is the current treasurer for SUNY AIRPO. In 2022, she was an NSF Fellow with North Caroline State’s LASER Institute and continued as a TA for the 2023 cohort. Among her service activities, Melinda reviews for The Journal of Research in Science Teaching (JRST) and the AIR Professional Files. She has presented at the American Educational Research Association, the National Association for Research in Science Teaching, and the European Science Education Research Association conferences as well as AIR Forum. Melinda holds a bachelor degree in mathematics and computer science from Niagara University and both a bachelor and master’s degree in chemistry and science education from SUNY Brockport. She received her PhD. in science education from the University at Buffalo in 2016. Melinda is a 2018 alum of the NCES Data Institute and has been a research mentor with the NCEs Data Institute since 2020.
