Session Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly large language models like ChatGPT, presents transformative opportunities in higher education, especially for institutional research (IR). This presentation explores how AI can streamline key tasks in the IR office including structuring responses to ad hoc requests; validating required reports; generating innovative strategies to enhance student retention and satisfaction; and aiding various decision-making processes. In addition, ChatGPT can serve as a programming assistant, helping researchers write SQL snippets or SAS code efficiently, reducing time spent on technical tasks, and enabling teams to focus on strategic objectives. By integrating AI tools into IR, professionals can elevate their ability to manage complex data, generate insights, and drive improvements, all while saving time and resources. This session will delve into practical applications of AI in these areas, providing examples and strategies for its implementation.
