Session Abstract: Campus climate surveys regularly collect data on instances of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and other forms of violence occurring at our institutions. Processing this nontypical data can negatively impact the way you feel about your organization, your work, and your relationships. This session applies lessons learned from social work and medical fields to explain how to successfully manage secondary trauma in institutional research through formalized well-being plans. This presentation includes an overview of the components of effective trauma stewardship, recommendations for well-being plan implementation, and examples of recent personal wellness plans for individuals and teams in higher education. The session will end with a discussion on how data have unexpectedly affected us all. Session attendees will leave with the confidence to minimize professional burnout associated with analyzing challenging data going forward.
