Assistant Provost & Director of Institutional Effectiveness

Rachel Smith serves as the Assistant Provost & Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Hampden-Sydney College. She oversees SACSCOC accreditation, institutional research, and academic and support unit assessment. In her role, Rachel collaborates with stakeholders across the College to satisfy requirements for external entities, and streamline processes and data collection to help stakeholders make informed decisions.
Rachel has completed SACSCOC and specialized accreditation consulting work with several institutions in Virginia, to include Christopher Newport University, Regent University, and William & Mary. In addition to serving on the VAG conference planning board, Rachel is also a member of the Virginia Regional Accreditation Symposium Board.
She completed a B.A. in Linguistics and Sociology at William & Mary and a Master of Theological Studies at Regent University. Rachel is slated to complete the Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning, and Leadership at William and Mary in June 2024.
