Originally from Athens, Georgia, James Ofori is a proud two-time alumnus of Savannah State University, earning his bachelor's degree in mass communications with a concentration in public relations and advertising in 2016, followed by a master's in public administration in 2018. James is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education degree in higher education management from the University of Georgia.
His journey in higher education commenced in 2017 when he joined the Office of Financial Aid at Savannah State University. In 2019, he transitioned to Atlanta, GA after securing a position at Morehouse School of Medicine as a program coordinator for Faculty Affairs and Development.
In addition to his primary role at MSM, Ofori serves as the chair of the Student Support.
rt Services Committee, a dedicated group advocating for all student support units and the well-being of students throughout the institution.
A member of the historic Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Ofori joined this first Black intercollegiate fraternity during his undergraduate years at Savannah State. University. He is also affiliated with professional organizations such as the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), and actively contributes to the leadership board for HBCU-CEEQA (Collaborative for Excellence in Educational Quality Assurance), and the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) Data Advisory Group.
As both an advocate and employee dedicated to the HBCU community, Ofori has set his sights on a future trajectory that involves working towards becoming an HBCU president. His multifaceted involvement and commitment underscore his dedication to the advancement of HBCUs and the students they serve.
