Strategic Foresight: A Tool for Planning for the Future You Want to See

Session Abstract: For most IR/IE professionals the levels of demand for state and federal compliance reporting as well as internal requests leaves them in a situation where they can only focus on what is immediately on fire. This constant scramble places us in a pattern of behavior that doesn’t allow us to strategically plan ahead and help shape our institutions in manners that we feel are most beneficial. The AIR Board of Directors has worked with the ASAE’s ForesightWorks program to incorporate strategic foresight efforts around key drivers of change in higher education and the IR/IE profession to help plan for the association’s future. In this concurrent session Board leaders will introduce what strategic foresight work is, talk about some of the key drivers identified by ASAE and those identified by the Board as most relevant for IR/IE professionals, and lead participants through a brief foresight exercise to help prepare them to use these tools on their own campuses.
