Session Abstract: Collaborating with program directors to determine the proper statistical analysis and data visualization for evaluation findings can be challenging. This session will focus on pre-post survey designs with closed and open-ended research questions. A case study will be presented on the evaluation practices of the Maximizing Access to Research Careers Program, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) at Georgia State University. This program aims to ignite and sustain interest and skills in scientific research, providing a direct path to PhD programs. Evaluation questions track student dispositions, skill awareness, and viewpoints on program helpfulness. Attendees will gain practical insights into using pre- and postresearch method designs. The session will guide attendees through selecting and conducting statistical analyses and data visualization for quantitative data, as well as applying machine learning for qualitative data to perform sentiment analysis and reporting in R.
Keywords: program evaluation, pre-post survey, statistical analysis, longitudinal study, data visualization
